A weakly-interacting many-body system of Rydberg polaritons based on electromagnetically induced transparency

چکیده
We proposed utilizing a medium with high optical depth (OD) and Rydberg state of low principal quantum number, $n$, to create weakly-interacting many-body system polaritons, based on the effect electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT). experimentally verified mean field approach observed phase shift attenuation by dipole-dipole interaction (DDI). The DDI-induced or can be viewed as consequence elastic inelastic collisions among polaritons. Using system, we further that larger DDI strength caused width momentum distribution polaritons at exit become notably smaller compared entrance. In this study, took $n =32$ atomic (or polariton) density 5$\times10^{10}$ 2$\times10^{9}$) cm$^{-3}$. observations demonstrate are sufficient drive thermalization process in system. combination $\mu$s-long time due high-OD EIT $\mu$m$^2$-size collision cross section suggests new feasible platform for Bose-Einstein condensation

Dark-state polaritons in electromagnetically induced transparency
We identify form-stable coupled excitations of light and matter ("dark-state polaritons") associated with the propagation of quantum fields in electromagnetically induced transparency. The properties of dark-state polaritons such as the group velocity are determined by the mixing angle between light and matter components and can be controlled by an external coherent field as the pulse propagate...
متن کاملElectromagnetically induced transparency with Rydberg atoms.
We present a theory of electromagnetically induced transparency in a cold ensemble of strongly interacting Rydberg atoms. Long-range interactions between the atoms constrain the medium to behave as a collection of superatoms, each comprising a blockade volume that can accommodate at most one Rydberg excitation. The propagation of a probe field is affected by its two-photon correlations within t...
متن کاملThree-photon electromagnetically induced transparency using Rydberg states.
We demonstrate electromagnetically induced transparency in a four-level cascade system where the upper level is a Rydberg state. The observed spectral features are sub-Doppler and can be enhanced due to the compensation of Doppler shifts with AC Stark shifts. A theoretical description of the system is developed that agrees well with the experimental results, and an expression for the optimum pa...
متن کاملElectromagnetically Induced Transparency in 6 Li Electromagnetically Induced Transparency In
We report electromagnetically induced transparency for the D1 and D2 lines in 6 Li in both a vapour cell and an atomic beam. Electromagnetically induced transparency is created using co-propagating mutually coherent laser beams with a frequency difference equal to the hyperfine ground state splitting of 228.2 MHz. The effects of various optical polarization configurations and applied magnetic f...
متن کاملElectromagnetically induced transparency
The subject of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) is reviewed in this paper. Emphasis is placed on the experimental work reported in this ®eld since 1990. Theoretical work is also covered, although it is not intended to review all the very numerous recent theoretical treatments on this topic. The basic physical ideas behind EIT are elucidated. The relation of EIT to other processes ...
